2. Objectives of the Project
2.1 General Objective:
To develop and implement a Spanish Curriculum for level A2 (A2.1 and A2.2), B1 and B2 to facilitate the learning and acquisition of Spanish, as a second language, in the different secondary school levels (forms) in Belize.
2.2 Specific Objectives of the Project:
a) To develop programs to teach the Spanish as a second language in Belize.
b) To standardize the teaching/learning approach and methods of the Spanish language at secondary schools level in Belize.
c) To fulfill the linguistic needs of the target group based on the linguistic variety of the geographical region.
d) To foster awareness of teachers to observe the different aspects of teaching a second language before, during, and after the delivery of a lesson.
e) To present the necessary theory to strengthen the teacher’s teaching/learning methods in teaching of a second language.
F) To guide the teacher in the implementation of the most relevant methods and/or approaches in language teaching.
g) To guide the teacher in the creation, adaptation and selection of didactic material for the teaching of Spanish as a second language (SSL).
h) To create awareness of the importance of Hispanic culture in the learning of the Spanish language.
i) To create an innovative and a positive concept about the teaching and learning/acquisition of a language.
j) To promote the affective strategies as a key tool in teaching and learning/acquisition of SSL.
k) To promote self-evaluation as a mechanism for reflection and improvement in both teaching and learning.
l) To present technology as a sophisticated and effective tool in language learning/acquisition.
m) To simplify and organize the information of different methods, approaches, strategies, contents, and activities presented in the Spanish Curriculum in order to facilitate its management and implementation.
n) To ensure effective teaching and learning of the Spanish Language, this guarantees the training of competent students in the target language.
